Mobile Emulation for the Salesforce1 App

The Salesforce1 Customer Platform and Mobile App have created a lot of buzz throughout the SFDC ecosystem and has allowed a lot of companies to easily connect with their customers in a new way. No matter what line of business you’re in, having a great mobile app allows your internal Salesforce users as well as your customers to have all the information that they need right at their fingertips. Thanks to the Salesforce1 Customer Platform, it’s now much easier and faster to make that a reality.

Before rolling out a new Salesforce1 Mobile App, full testing should occur on a variety of mobile devices and tablets and Google Chrome developer tools allows us to do just that with their Mobile Emulator. Here’s how.

1. The first step is to ensure that the Salesforce1 mobile app is enabled for your org. Navigate to: Setup / Administer / Mobile Administration / Salesforce1 / Settings and make sure that the “Enable the Salesforce1 mobile browser app” is checked.

2. While logged into Salesforce from a Google Chrome Browser, enter /one/one.app after the URL of your Salesforce instance and click Enter.

3. You should now see the full screen version of Salesforce1. To emulate from a mobile device, right click anywhere on the screen and click Inspect Element.

4. This will open the Chrome Developer Tools at the bottom of your browser. On the right side of the menu bar, click the icon for “Show Drawer” image.

6. Make sure you keep the Developer Tools open or your page will change back to the full screen mode. Also, if you change devices, be sure to refresh your page each time to ensure the App renders correctly.
