Microsoft Dynamics CRM Conference Highlights

Mike Marnocha, Technology Director, CMS & Web Platforms

As a long time SharePoint, Collaboration and Content Management System architect, I recently journeyed outside my comfort zone into the land of CRM. As Office 365 continues to grow, Microsoft heavy focus on CRM, and customer facing solutions requiring NSA level of "understanding" and connection with your customer it is a natural progression to explore this new opportunity.

I recently attended the MS Dynamics technical conference in Seattle back in February and just came back from Convergence 2015. This “Sway” is a mini recap of my experience and thoughts through my viewpoint.  This also is my first Sway, inspired by a presentation at Convergence.

What is Sway?

Sway is a new Microsoft tool.  It is cloud based so you don’t have to install anything.  It is a little like PowerPoint in you create a presentation with an organized structure of content.  It is different than PowerPoint as it does the design and layout for you, but you can choose themes and tag content that you want emphasized to be larger/smaller.  It “presents” itself as a web page that is fully responsive and can be viewed on any device such as a mobile phone browser without having to install anything.  Sway also allows you to pull in content like a YouTube video, Facebook post, Tweet from Twitter, pictures from Flickr in unique and relevant ways.  Things you embed are also live, so if you embed a tweet you can follow the person from the sway presentation.  To create a Sway you can use your browser or a mobile Sway application.  I’m using it as a blogging platform, but it could be used as a presentation tool or for learning.  Check it out at
