A Non-profit Like No Other
Rightpoint developed a custom software development solution for managing the YMCA's nationally-sanctioned learning and career development offerings.
The YMCA of the USA serves as the national resource office for nearly 900 local YMCA associations and 2,700 branch locations nationwide. The organization was in need of a new learning management system to handle one of its core services: providing and managing training, licensing and certifications for Y staff and community members.
After two separate attempts to use off-the-shelf software to meet this need, the YMCA recognized that more than 80% of the solution would need to be customized. The organization engaged Rightpoint to create the Learning and Career Development Center (LCDC). The resulting learning management system (LMS) solution includes a central trainer and student portal providing class and event scheduling, registration, e-learning, and licensing and certification services.
Rolled out across the YMCA network, the LCDC manages training needs for the Y’s 20,000 staff members, 100,000 volunteers as well as the people within its communities. The new solution’s capabilities include:
Browsing, registering and monitoring leadership and training opportunities based on geographic parameters
- Managing classes and creating events
- Certification and transcript tracking, including automated notifications on upcoming expirations
- Online registration for program and leadership classes around the country
- Self service for students to monitor the status of their certifications and licenses
By empowering the individual users, the LCDC has decreased the amount of manual processing previously needed to manage the certification process while also increasing the frequency of leadership and training updates that Y-USA is able to deliver.
