I'm going out on a limb here as this is one of those petty things I find myself biting my lip on.  Is there a governing body that oversees the pronunciations of IT terms & acronyms?  Think about it for a second.  Here are a couple of things to ponder for how we can pronounce 3 typical everyday terms/words (ITIL, Project, Data):

ITIL

1. ayh-til (yes)
2. it-il (no)
3. itee-l (ok, I went to far on this one)
4. ayh-tee-ayh-el (No one says it this way, but we say RDMBS by each letter.  Go-figure.)

Project

1. proj-ekt (yes)
2. proh-jekt (you are allowed to say it this way if you are from the UK, otherwise no)

Data

1. dey-tuh (yes)
2. dat-uh (no)
3. dah-tuh (I've never heard anyone say it this way unless you are Thurston Howell, III)

Some of my Europrean friends even call it "day-ter"...  I must admit that I can't find that one.  Where did the "r" come from?  I'm not going to mention any names, but you know who you are (Keith, Gerald, Kenneth)...

I'm am crowning myself "King of All Data". 

My 1st proclamation is to forever pronounce Data as "dey-tuh".
